Still Stupid: One More Note About Xe

There was more discussion about Xe on the American Name Society list recently, and Julie Winn made the following observation:

Xe means “10th” in French, like the tenth arrondissement of Paris. That is actually quite a common way to refer to it. The French pronounce Xe “dixième” — it’s usual to use Roman numerals for the arrondissements for some reason.

Dumb!

I completely agree. Linguistic analysis on Xe = FAIL.
