It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s Supername! The Best and Worst Names in Comic Books

Share

In honor of Comic-Con, which just finished in San Diego, we’ve assembled some of the best, worst, and weirdest superhero and villain names.

There are so many evocative and memorable monikers–Batman, Black Widow, General Zod, Mystique, Ozymandias–I could never choose a winner.

Though these are less well known (for obvious reasons), there are dozens of god-awful names too: Paste-Pot Pete, Goat-Faced Girl, The Whizzer, Elongated Man. For most sexist alone (a subcategory of worst), we’ve got a half dozen, including Lady Cop, Thor Girl, She-Hulk, and Jezebel Jet.

For weirdest, I have to say it’s a tie between Arm-Fall-Off-Boy and Matter-Eater Lad. (Google them, I am not making this up.)

If you want to see more, the Weeklings selection by Samuel Sattin of 50 best and worst is quite comprehensive:
