There’s only one thing worse than finding out that the company or product name you just fell in love with actually means “Your sister is a bag of hammers” in Samoan. And that’s finding out that it doesn’t—but that you can’t legally own it. That’s why we provide a stepped-up level of preliminary availability screening on all name candidates before we recommend them. This eliminates names that are obviously unavailable and it increases the chances that your name will be legally available when your legal counsel puts it through their full screening.

Our trademark screening team has vast experience evaluating names in every industry. And we’re not talking about a cursory internet search, or a quick pass through United States trademarks. Things in Trademarkland are rarely that simple, and often they require an understanding of trademark law to interpret. (For example, certain registered trademarks, like Internet Explorer and Ford Explorer, are allowed to coexist, as long as there’s no likelihood of confusion.)

To cover our bases, we review online references, industry-specific databases, domain name use, and international trademarks when appropriate. By looking at all of these resources, we’re able to winnow our short list down to only those names with a high likelihood of passing your lawyers’ final legal test.

Think of our availability screening team as your attorney’s new BFF. And if you don’t already have a good trademark attorney, we can provide you with one.
